So what's better than reading a good book?

Talking about a good book. It's even better when you can talk so someone who has read it too. That is why participating in book clubs are so important. When everyone contributes something, we all take more than we came with. I believe that discussions of tough subjects can be useful if everyone is willing to open up and bring a respectful perspective. There is no time like the present to read a meaningful piece of literature.

With my good friend over at Angst and Alliteration, we will be posting discussion questions and thoughts to the event Facebook page. The event will run the first two weeks of August, the 1st-15th. This gives everyone time to read at their own pace and join the discussion when they want. You'll be able to post questions and comments as well. This discussion is open to anyone, and even if you don't read the book, your thoughts matter to us. We are happy to have anyone willing to take part, no matter the extent.

I'm hearing from people that they own this wonderful book, but haven't had the time or energy to read it.The subject matter is heavy. The writing is inspiring and sometimes visceral. Why would anyone want to have a book club discussion on race relations and racial justice? Book clubs are supposed to be fun! Race talks aren't fun!

Is that what you think? Book clubs are to get you thinking. And talking. Both of which can be fun and knowledgeable. What would it take for you to join us?
