the self-publish Spotlight

Art hurts. Art urges voyages - and it is easier to stay at home.

Show off your hard work
I hold a very special place in my heart (and right here on the blog) for independent and self-published authors. As important as it is to know the works of Malcom X, Octavia E. Butler, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, YOUR work should be celebrated too. I want to celebrate the hard work you put into self-publishing, self-producing, and sometimes being a business of one.
Below are wonderful authors who have reached out to me personally to have their work reviewed on Black & Bookish. Some I met at book festivals, some just through email. Each photo contains a short description of the book, the link to my Black & Bookish review, and a link to the author's website/social media.
Guidelines
The Self-Published Spotlight is open to Writers of Color who have heritage within the African Diaspora. This program is to uplift Black writers and their hard work within a publishing system who barely recognizes them.
As Black & Bookish has grown, I have stepped away from free reviews to give authors a more tailored service. By charging a small fee, I can dedicate time to your accomplishment the same way I do for critiques and consultations. Please read the through the guidelines below for details and requirements.

After I’ve read your book, you will receive a comprehensive email that includes the review publication date and all my notes.

Self-Published Spotlight
$60 flat rate
Projects take approximately 4 weeks.
Why is this price point so different from all other services? It’s based on the appreciation I have for self-published authors, not an indication of the time and investment needed to accomplish this content.
Note: Books that are written from a discriminatory perspective (homophobia, sexism, fatophobia, etc.) are not a good fit for this site.
